Algo Avocats, founded in 2021 by Sandra Tubert and Laura Ziegler, is a niche company expert in innovation topics. The firm operates in all areas of competence of commercial law, making sure to involve lawyers who share an in-depth knowledge of the digital and technological world. Four-handed explanations.
Your company is recent, however your partnership is old
In fact, we have been lawyers since 2011 and 2012 respectively, but we have been collaborating since 2016; we were then collaborators of the independent French firm August Debouzy. After a few years, we decided to go on our own, first creating, in October 2019, the Tech & data practice of the BCTG company, before returning to our initial project in May 2021, building a company in our image, more agile. , offering tailored and positioned support in the tech sector.
The world of innovation, large groups such as the startups that compose it, is demanding, you need to know how to meet their expectations, speak their own language and know how to adapt to their tools and their working methods, all with a good dose. of energy and enthusiasm!
We offer our clients a broad range of legal skills and great agility. Technologies are increasingly complex and evolving very quickly, so staying awake and training on a daily basis is essential. Furthermore, we do not hesitate to rethink the way we work with our customers, the service we offer them and organize training in collaboration with specialists, AI or cybersecurity engineers.
A niche company in IT data
We are fortunate to evolve within a business sector that has been growing for several years now, which has literally exploded with the health crisis which highlighted the need to digitize all sectors of activity, even those that are quite distant.
We feel we are at the center of everything that is taking place economically and politically.
If for the moment Europe does not have GAFA or BATX to its credit, even if many European companies, large groups or start-ups, are leaders in their sectors, it is trying to impose itself more and more in the legislative field, as evidenced by the ‘current regulatory explosion at European level on these issues (draft IA regulations, e-privacy regulations, Data Act, Data Governance Act, Digital Market Act, Digital Service Act, etc.). We are witnessing divergent visions with the United States in particular and power relations that are becoming increasingly complex on these issues, as can be highlighted currently on the subject of transfers of personal data outside the European Union.
Obviously we are following all these legislative projects very closely, to help our clients anticipate future developments and build innovative legal solutions with them.
Innovation is precisely the common point that we share with the customers we support, the companies of the tech world, which are both large accounts and startups for which these innovative projects are at the center of their business model is a way to support their growth. We therefore support software publishers, IT service providers, suppliers of hardware or connected objects, but also corporate customers of these solutions or products.
IT and data are very specific areas, what services do you offer?
Technology and data issues are often very intertwined.
If we take, for example, an AI-based technology, for an AI model to be efficient, it must be fed with a lot of data, while taking into account a rather restrictive legislative framework. We thus help our customers to respect this legislative framework, but also to structure their business, contractually supervising these technological achievements.
We provide consultancy and litigation in three main areas of expertise: technology and telecommunications, protection of personal and digital data, internet and e-commerce.
In terms of data protection, we can intervene in the context of audits and GDPR compliance programs, as well as feasibility studies on data-centric projects, or even in the implementation of commercial prospecting or web marketing. We also support our customers in the context of crisis situations, such as personal data breaches, during CNIL checks or procedures for formal notice or CNIL sanctions.
Many interested interlocutors: legal and technical teams, internal engineers, CIOs, CEOs and operational teams. Not everyone speaks the same language, we create the connection and this is also the interesting aspect of our work. We need to adapt the councils, translate the law in an operational and pragmatic way.
In the tech and telecom part, we operate both in the implementation of digitization and dematerialisation projects (electronic signature, electronic payment), and to protect and contractually supervise the high value-added technological achievements of our customers. This is the case with our customers who are launching solutions that integrate artificial intelligence, deep learning or blockchain-based solutions.
We also offer more traditional support in the structuring, contracting, negotiation of complex IT projects (SaaS contracts, through co-development contracts or those integrating the agile method or even Outsourcing contracts), but also in the structuring of distribution networks for software publishers. We also help them in managing their pre-litigation and their IT litigation and in implementing crisis exit strategies.
Many stakeholders are interested in our subjects: legal teams, DPOs, CIOs, CEOs and corporate teams. Not everyone speaks the same language, we create the connection and this is also the interesting aspect of our work. We need to adapt the advice given to our interlocutors and translate the law in an operational and pragmatic way.
What makes your difference?
Our strength is above all our team and our partners, lawyers passionate about innovative topics and new technologies in a broad sense. They are experts in their fields of activity (personal data law, new technology law, Internet law, labor law, public law, company law), trained in leading law firms, both in France and abroad, who share the same vision.
Even beyond our specialized areas of expertise, our particularity lies in our deep knowledge of companies that have been evolving in the world of digital and technology to support them for more than 10 years.
We therefore have an important reference point of industry practices, and therefore we help our clients to position themselves and / or strengthen their positioning in relation to market practices, a business sector and / or similar sectors.
How do you see the future?
First, we are working to structure our team, which has more than doubled since our creation! Our goal is also to develop our partnership system, in order to integrate in our structure, the lawyers of labor law, risk capital, health law, banking regulations or public law that today make up our ecosystem of partners, to support, under the colors of Algo, our clients in all areas of law thanks to experts with a strong appetite for the world of technology and a great understanding of the challenges of this sector.
From a business point of view, we want to continue to support and help our clients face their future challenges and challenges, which will be numerous and undoubtedly exciting (Web 3.0 development, metaverse, NFT, cybersecurity issues, etc.) . To do this, we will continue to strengthen our training, in particular on our understanding of technological aspects, to rethink our methods of management and organization, as well as our service offerings in order to be able to offer our customers a support that is increasingly suited to their needs. and constraints.
