This is the little novelty of the rue Pierre-Mauroy campus. The school specializing in creative professions, already present in nine cities in France, opens a shop in Lille with four courses including a preparation for applied arts. The goal: to offer quality support and speakers and real-life situations, to allow everyone to find their own way in the world of creation.

Studio M has existed for more than twenty years, on nine campuses across France. Since the beginning of the school year there have been ten, with the opening in Lille of the school specializing in the professions of creation, design and audiovisuals. Located on the campus of rue Pierre-Mauroy, which includes, among other things, schools of com ‘, commerce and multimedia, Studio M offers for its first start four courses, one of which we are particularly interested in in this article: the propaedeutic arts applied.

So no, it’s not yet another artistic preparation as there are so many. The idea is to help students find their way into the vast world of creation. Because the tools and techniques for making art are numerous, as is the panel of related crafts. Design, advertising, marketing, digital, in the world of sport, commerce, cinema, 3D, drawing… There is a lot to do. It is still necessary to know them all and be able to make a choice in this whirlwind of possibilities.

With this preparation, they will set foot on the job market by tapping of the finger different crafts and creation techniquesthanks to quality support and speakers as well only to a diversity of teachings“Explains François Ansieau, director of the Eduservices Lille campus.

And after the preparatory year, they can choose to try the entrance exams at major art and design schools or continue on to another course on campus. “There are bridges between our different schools and in the case of Studio M, this year we are opening three first bachelors: director-rice – editor, sound designer and sound engineer“Says the director.

Update and configuration

For one year, through a large volume of hours (760 hours), everyone develops their own artistic culture by updating in all sectors of applied arts, thanks to courses in drawing, space design, product or fashion, photography, painting, software ( Indesign, Illustrator and Photoshop), computer graphics and others.

And the school obviously doesn’t stop there, as it offers an internship (optional), projects and workshops that allow you to be placed in a real situation, such as that of the job market. “We organize four one-week workshops where students meet each time an artist who comes up with a creative technique and a hands-on problem with specifications“, Explains Mélanie Dehenne, teaching assistant at Studio M.

To help them develop their autonomy, their uniqueness and their creative sense, students are also encouraged to work a personal creation project lasting four to six weeks. “We impose on them only a theme and a material or technical constraint.continues Mélanie Dehenne. They are free to do what they want. The goal is that in the end they can answer for their project, explaining their artistic approach“.

Registration, instructions

Now that you know what to expect, all that remains is to give you the practical details. Already the price: it counts 5,500 euros per year. And if you want to take out a loan, the school has interesting partnerships with banks to negotiate it. And it can also help you find student accommodation.

Regarding registration, here’s what to do: prepare the documents (CV, cover letter, school report cards, diplomas, identity card or residence permit), fill in the application form available online and wait for the school to call you to arrange an appointment. Because whether it is for the preparation for applied arts or for the three bachelors of studio M, you will have to pass a short entrance exam, which is divided into three phases: a multiple choice of general artistic culture, a question about your motivation and your project and an interview. Nothing really negative, as it mainly serves to understand your project, your motivation and your knowledge.

If your application is accepted, the school gives you an appointment in late September-early October for the start of the school year. And here we are for a crazy year of creation.

If you have any questions, Studio M organizes an open day on 2 July from 10.00 to 12.00, upon registration, via this link. More information on the school website (attention, it brings together the ten campuses in France), on their Facebook page and Instagram.
